Mountpark, supported by The National Forest and Nicholsons, invited residents of all ages to join them on Saturday for a free breakfast and to help plant new trees at the 53-acre biodiverse woodland, as well as a treasure hunt for children and woodland tours.
The day was a great success, with many members of the local community in attendance, as well as representatives from Mountpark, Nicholsons and the National Forest. Over the course of the morning participants hand planted 45 fruit and fir trees and designed plaques to allow them to visit their trees to keep track of their progress. The team were also gratified to have so much interest from residents hoping to support the woodland in the longer term.
Rach Clarke, development director for Mountpark commented: “It is testament to the community spirit in Harthorne and Swadlincote that we had such a brilliant turnout and a wonderful day on Saturday for our Planting Event. St. Peter’s Wood is quickly becoming a valued asset in this community, with visitors able to get involved in the development of the space, planting the trees and observing the wildlife habitats that it offers.
We were gratified to see such a strong response and to be able to meet so many engaged and active members of the community. We look forward to keeping in touch with them as we continue to develop this fantastic woodland.”
